Here are some of the iconic lamps designed by Konstantin Grcic that have revolutionized contemporary lighting:
Mayday Lamp
One of Grcic’s most famous lamps is the Mayday Lamp, designed in 1998. The name of the lamp is derived from the emergency signal, as the lamp can be used in emergency or power outage situations. It is made of polycarbonate and is lightweight and portable, making it easy to move from one room to another. The lamp has a simple design but is highly functional, with adjustable brightness, and can be hung from multiple locations.
OK Lamp
The OK Lamp is another iconic offering from Grcic. Launched in 2014, the lamp is designed to resemble a flashlight, with a long tubular arm and a conical head. The lamp’s body is made of matte-finished, anodized aluminum, and the head is made of injection-molded polymer. The OK Lamp has a three-step dimmer, and the head can be rotated up to 45 degrees, making it perfect for focused reading or working.
Noctambule Lamp
Grcic’s Noctambule lamp was launched in 2018 and is an engineering marvel. The lamp is made of translucent blown glass modules stacked one on top of the other and held together with aluminum connectors. The modules can be rotated and positioned to create light sculptures of varying heights and shapes. Each module emits light, thereby creating a multi-level illuminated structure. The lamp is dimmable and can be used to create ambient light or bright task lighting.
